Tokyo Olympics: Opening Ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Japan
The opening ceremony of XXXII Summer Olympic Games was held in Tokyo. 339 sets of medals in 33 sports will be up for grabs at the Tokyo Olympics. Five new sports were included into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics’ program: baseball/softball, karate, surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding. Over 11,000 athletes from 205 countries took part in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. Track and field athlete Olga Rypakova and boxer Kamshybek Kunkabayev were the flag bearers of Kazakhstan’s national team. XXXII Summer Olympic Games were initially scheduled to take place in summer 2020 in Japan. However, on March 24, 2020 the International Olympic Committee announced its decision to postpone the Games until 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Tokyo Summer Olympic Games will wrap up on August 8.
