Today Kazakhstanis voted in the republican referendum on the proposed constitutional amendments.
Last time Kazakhstan held a nationwide referendum 27 years ago back in 1995 to approve the existing Constitution. This year’s referendum proposes to make 33 amendments to the Constitution. 
Since early morning Kazakhstanis flocked to the polling stations across the country to cast their votes for the proposed amendments. Among them were Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, heads of government agencies, public figures.
Voter turnout stood at 67,65% at 20:00 pm Nur-Sultan time on 5 June 2022. According to preliminary data, some 8 million Kazakhstanis cast their votes. 8,089 polling stations closed to voters in 12 regions of the country at 20:00 pm and vote count began. 17 polling stations at the Kazakh diplomatic missions in 10 foreign countries also wrapped up voting.
