19.05.2017 Night at the Museum held at ALZHIR memorial site

Organizers of the event attempted to recreate in real life the hardships the prisoners of the ALZHIR camp went through. Visitors got a chance to relive the horrors innocent wives and children went through at the camp for sticking to their husbands, brothers and fathers who were deemed traitors. Stands dedicated to other historical events were also on display at the memorial complex.
Over 18,000 women went through the gulag system – they were transferred from one women’s camp to another. Nearly 8,000 women served their sentences at the ALZHIR camp from start to finish. Those were mostly wives of well-known Soviet politicians and statesmen.
